Volunteer
Volunteers play an important role at Breckenridge Creative Arts by providing support and leadership for our programs, projects and activities. Comprised of people of all ages and backgrounds, our corps of volunteers work to strengthen community awareness and public appreciation for BCA, contribute to its financial strength and provide vital support services to its staff.
BCA volunteers are used in the following positions:

Co-op Artists
We are growing a healthy arts community and recognize the importance of our local artists. The Arts District campus features three studios to rent to local artists at an affordable rate. Studios are located in the Randall Barn and lower level of the Ceramic Studio. Artists are selected based on the excellence of their work and public participation abilities. Our co-op artist program provides affordable space for local artists to work and thrive. In return, we ask that artists host open studio hours and workshops that engage the community.
The synergy of local, regional and national artists, who are instructing workshops in a variety of mediums, provides a catalyst for creative minds to connect and share their craft.

Artists-in-Residence
BCA’s artist-in-residence program offers local, regional, national, and international artists of all disciplines an opportunity to focus on process rather than product while engaging with the local community in a meaningful way.
Visiting artists live and work for three to four months in the Breckenridge Arts District, an intimate campus of historic structures nestled under majestic snow-capped peaks in cozy downtown Breckenridge. During their live/work residency, artists explore a place-based thematic narrative—whether that means interpreting our spectacular mountain setting, rich local history, or risk-taking spirit; or focusing on an environmental or social topic important to the community. Artists are offered a biweekly stipend of $400 to cover food and other expenses. Paid teaching opportunities are available with BCA approval. Artist expectations include: facilitating two weekly open studios (on campus), instructing one weekly class, participating in monthly Second Saturdays, and planning and hosting a final presentation or event produced in collaboration with a local partner. Artists with teaching experience will be favored. BCA offers classes in the following mediums: ceramics, metalsmithing, glassblowing, welding, printmaking, sewing/textiles, painting, woodworking, mountain crafts + skills, kids workshops, mixed media. Only artists with a website or social media platform will be considered.
Exhibiting artists are curated artists who participate in BCA’s annual exhibition or festival programs, which include both indoor gallery spaces and outdoor installation sites. These artists may be eligible to receive housing on campus along with a negotiated artist fee. Exhibiting artists staying in the Tin Shop or Robert Whyte House are asked to host one artist talk, workshop during their stay, in addition to any exhibition-related obligations that have been contracted separately. Co-op artists are local creative entrepreneurs who rent affordable space on the Arts District campus and host regular visiting hours in their studios for the public to observe their process. This is a year-long commitment and artists are able to choose from various rental options. Email Drea Edwards at drea@breckcreate.org to inquire about availability.
The application cycle for the 2023 Artist-in-Residence Program has closed. Please check back in April 2023 to apply for the 2024 cycle.
The artist-in-residence program is a partnership between Breckenridge Creative Arts and the Saddle Rock Society.
Open Studios
There are a wide variety of opportunities for you to drop into our studios and meet our makers on campus. Some open studios are designed for observation and conversation, while others allow for hands-on experience.
Visiting Artist Studios: Tin Shop + Robert Whyte House
Artists at the Tin Shop and Robert Whyte House host working studio hours Thursdays and Fridays, 2–5pm, where the public can stop in and see the artists at work. This is an opportunity for guests to meet national and international artists working in a variety of mediums — from ceramics and painting to fiber, glass, mixed media, photography and filmmaking.

Ceramic Studio
The Ceramic Studio is open several days during the week where you can come in and work on ceramic projects of your own. The studio is well-equipped with throwing wheels, hand-building tables, slab roller, extruder and community tools. Clay is available for sale that includes your bisque firing, use of glazes and glaze firings. We also have a kiln yard and host several alternative firings throughout the year, including Raku, wood and pit firings. Drop in and get your hands muddy.

Hot Shop
The Hot Shop is where all of the hot arts take place, including silversmithing, precious metal clay, lampworking, stained glass and encaustic painting. The studio is well-equipped with all of the tools required for these mediums. Open studios vary from observation of demonstrations to hands-on experience. Drop in and see this studio on fire.

Studio Techs
Studio Techs are responsible for leading Open Studios in the Ceramic Studio or Hot Shop. Studio Techs are not instructors, but are available to answer general questions and orient new participants. Studio Techs must commit to hosting one Open Studio per week. If you are interested in becoming a Studio Tech, please fill out our Instructor and Studio Tech Application and we will be in touch
Instructors + Studio Techs
As class enrollment grows, BCA looks forward to expanding our catalog of art, craft and design opportunities. We welcome applications from experienced artists, and prefer applicants with teaching experience and/or a graduate degree in Fine Arts or Arts Education. Artists working in all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Scholarships
In an effort to increase accessibility and to invite a diverse group of participants to engage in BCA programs, we offer limited student scholarships for select classes and workshops on our Arts District campus. Please note that these scholarships are non-cash awards and only provide a waiver of the class registration fee. Any travel, supplies, or associated costs are the responsibility of the scholarship recipient.
Calls to Artists
Breckenridge Creative Arts seeks to present innovative work that is new to Breckenridge and Colorado. BCA encourages applications from artists representing the widest possible range of perspectives and demographics, and welcomes artists engaging in the broadest spectrum of artistic practice. With excellence, diversity and relevance as core values of BCA, our goal is to continue to introduce the Breckenridge community and its guests to the works of regional, national and international artists of the highest caliber.
A multi-layered programming team guides BCA’s artistic vision and curatorial framework. Our experienced team of arts professionals shapes the artistic quality of programming selected to ensure the highest international standard while truly reflecting the unique character of Breckenridge.
We will post calls to artists throughout the year to engage artists in our residency programs, educational curriculum, exhibition and performance opportunities, and other curated experiences. We are currently seeking project proposals for the programs noted below. Additional calls for artists will be forthcoming over the coming months, so check back frequently.
