Inspired by the cultural hybridity evident in the architecture and design of his hometown of Las Vegas, Justin Favela’s paper landscapes pulls imagery from casinos, tourist shops, expansive American shopping malls, and the over-the-top appropriation of Italian luxury. The piñata material evokes the festivity of Spanish celebrations and festivals, while the extreme nature of the installation embraces a slightly absurd experience, blurring the lines between what is real and surreal.
