Enjoy the adventure of creating your own work of art each week while becoming familiar with the basic methods, techniques, and tools of oil painting on canvas. Create a new painting each week while learning to use a variety of oils, solvents, brushes and supports. Acquire skills in underpainting, scumbling, glazing, Impasto, Alla Prima, and Sfumato techniques.
Instructor: Tracy Bligh
Participants must be 17 or older to participate.

September 4: Still-Life Study of Glass
Compose a still-life using 3 to 4 glass vases. Learn the techniques of painting reflected
light, the illusion of water and proper shadow colors. This study produces a beautiful
piece of art!
September 11: Impressionist Style Self-Portrait
Using a 16”x20” canvas, create a larger-than-life impressionist style self-portrait of the
head with the use of a hand mirror. Learn how to paint facial features using tints and
shades.
September 18: Autumn Still-Life
Using a wicker basket, arrange a composition of pumpkins, gourds, pinecones, acorns
and fall foliage. With a palette full of rich fall colors, paint a still-life focusing on light
and shadows to create colorful forms.
September 25: Plein Air of Golden Aspens
Walk a short distance down to the Blue River in Breckenridge (5 minutes from the
studio) and paint the glorious golden Aspen trees, Impressionist style. Learn how to
create balance and harmony in your landscape composition that is appealing to the
viewing eye.
October 2: Plein Air of Peak 8 and Main St.
We will set up outside of the Randall Barn in the direction of Peak 8 and Main St. Using
one, two and three-point perspectives we will create a contemporary style painting
with mountains, cabins, sidewalks and streets.
October 9: Still-life Musical Instrument Study Impasto Style
Create a musical instrument collage painting using a thick application of paint to show
form and reflect light.
