This is an introduction to the potters wheel where students will practice the standard throwing steps of centering clay and bringing up the walls to form cylinders and basic shapes. We will also cover finishing steps with trimming our pieces and adding handles or feet. Students will also explore different methods of surface decoration, including sgraffito techniques using underglazes.
While participants will not be able to complete a project in 1 class, they are encouraged to take another class and/or glazing class to complete their project. Firings occur when there is enough work to fill the kiln.
Participants must be 15 or older to participate. The cost of the class includes clay, use of tools, and other studio equipment.
