Building Hope – The HYPE: Expressive Life Drawing @ Old Masonic Hall
Feb 18 @ 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm
Building Hope - The HYPE: Expressive Life Drawing @ Old Masonic Hall

Building Hope in collaboration with BreckCreate, learn about life drawing. While we will be drawing from life, our focus will not be on realistic replication, but on expressive mark making through gestural drawing and doodling. We’ll explore different types of drawing tools and techniques, how our emotions and thoughts come through our mark making, and we’ll do number of exercises to loosen up and allow our creative spirits to express freely. Expect some silly drawings and laughter and be ready to open your perception of what makes a drawing “good.” This class is fit for any level of artist, though for this class, it may be the beginners who will produce the sillier or “better” drawings in the group.

About the instructor: Kia Neill is native to Chicago Illinois, received her MFA from The University of California, San Diego, and relocated to Denver CO in 2014 from Houston Texas, where she was Full-time Faculty of 7 years at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston Glassell School of Art. After repeat visits as a Guest Artist in the Breckenridge Arts District (now Breck Create), Neill moved to Colorado to explore her deep attraction to the mountain landscape.

This event is limited to 9 participants Ages 12-20. Presented Free of Charge by our Generous Sponsors for Summit County Residents Only.

Building Hope – The HYPE: Soft Sculpture @ Old Masonic Hall

Building Hope - The HYPE: Soft Sculpture @ Old Masonic Hall

Building Hope, in collaboration with BreckCreate, learn about soft sculpture.  Not all sculpture consists of the bronze statues you see in town, or the other stone, metal, or ceramic artworks we most often see in public spaces. Artists make sculpture from all kinds of material, even food! In this class we’ll focus on fiber and use fabric and yarn as our main sculpture material. We’ll go over some sewing and assembling strategies, embellishment, and experiment with how a flat pattern changes when transformed into a dimensional creature. Patterns for different creatures will be provided for students to use or alter..
