Have you been creating lots of work in Clay Hand Building and Ceramics Open Studio and wonder what to do next? Then Ceramics Glazing is for you!

This class will discuss and demonstrate proper ceramic glazing techniques for mid-range firing. Perfect for the student who has made ceramic pieces and needs glaze instruction or for experienced students that would like to learn new glazing techniques. Please bring bisque fired pieces to glaze.  

Participants must be 15 or older to participate. The cost of the class includes glaze, use of tools, and other studio equipment.

Get creative in a fun and relaxed environment! During each session, children will work on a new project, pushing the boundaries of imagination and invention. They will have the opportunity to explore new materials and techniques using a variety of mediums.

This class is designed for children to explore creative projects using ceramic clay through pinching, coiling and slab techniques. Each session will be a different project from sculpture to utilitarian to stimulate creativity in a playful way.

Participants must be 6 or older to participate. The cost the class includes clay, tools and firing. Non-members $15 Members $12

 

“Please note that clay pieces still need to fired in a ceramic kiln. Firings occur every 2 weeks or when there is enough to fire. If you are visiting, the instructor will give you firing instructions to give to your local ceramic studio. “

Open Studios are an opportunity to explore a medium independently. Studio technicians will be present to orient participants, but these sessions are not led by an instructor. Prior to attending on Open Studio session, participants must have taken a class on campus.

Participants must be 15 or older to participate. Prices are $16 for non-members and $12 for members. Clay is available for purchase at $10 for 12.5 lbs + $20 for 25 lbs.

This class will cover the basics of Storyboarding. You will learn what story boarding means and how to utilize Storyboarding to bring your writing to life. No drawing skill? No problem! The focus of this class is to learn how to bring your story to life on the page!

This class will experience clay hand building through the method of slab construction and slab manipulation, pinching and coiling to create decorative and also functional pieces. Projects will include cylinder vessels, slab boxes and pockets, tumblers, cups, mugs and plates.

This class will also explore surface decorating techniques using underglazes and sgraffito as well as texture techniques and slip trailing that will make your utilitarian pieces come to life with design.

Please note that ceramics is a multistep process. While participants will not be able to complete a fired project in one class, they are encouraged to take a private glazing class or open studio to complete/glaze their project.

Firings occur when there is enough work to fill the kiln.

A fancy photo app may make your photography look better, but there’s more to eye catching photos than adjusting contrast and color post shoot. Improve your photography skills while enjoying some fresh air on some local trails. Learn some tips on photo composition to help you compose a dynamic shot to begin with, as well as tips on camera operation, whether you will be using your camera phone or your DSLR camera. In addition to bringing cameras, students should also be able and prepared for a light to intermediate hike, with proper footwear, attire, water, snacks, and anything else they may need. We will walk from the Riverwalk Center to a local trail. Anticipate 1-3 miles of hiking. All ages welcome.

A spin off of the Muddy Buddies kids ceramics class, Mucky Buddies is a non-ceramics family sculpture class. We’ll make our own sculpture and art materials using mostly household items and explore different ways of creating and having fun with our homemade materials. We’ll make slime, salt dough, model magic and raid the recycle bin for project materials as well, and then sculpt all kinds of creations from monsters to holiday ornaments. Think mad-scientist meets artist. Most weeks, things will get messy, so be prepared. Kids might want to create a “mad artist” notebook, to make notes on our experiments.

Family members of all ages are welcome, while ages under 6yrs will require hands on assistance of their parents or older siblings.

Each week we will cover different aspects of drawing as we practice skills in observation, understanding light, elements of design and composition; while not taking ourselves too seriously and have fun!

This class will take advantage of the beautiful winter scenery by taking our paints outdoors! We will spend the majority of class outside learning about light, color and layers in nature. All levels are welcome!

Materials suggestion:
Paints of choice, with at least five colors to mix between. Preferably a yellow ocher, blue, cadmium red, white and green. All colors can be made with these but the more the better!
A jar with a lid to rinse brushes
Rag/paper towel
Paint pallet/paper plate/ plastic Tupperware
Stool/bucket for sitting
Small easel if available
Paper/primed canvas/primed panel for painting on
Brushes – at least three sizes, small, medium, large
Water bottle for rinsing brushes/extra for drinking.

Add the optional $10 materials fee if you are not bringing your own materials. The materials fee includes the use of watercolor paint, brushes, pencils, and watercolor paper. Participants will take home any finished paintings.
