OVERVIEWBreckenridge Creative Arts is issuing a Request for Qualifications and Proposals (hereinafter “RFQ&P”) from individual artists or artist teams to design and implement an original, medium-scale public artwork using the theme of “snowboarding” to be installed on yet-to-be-determined outdoor site in Breckenridge, Colorado. Up to three artists will be selected as semi-finalists to develop and present design proposals. Each will receive a $750 stipend. The winning artist will be awarded a contract for between $50,000–$100,000, depending on their proposal, and will be responsible for the creation and installation of the final work. Please note: This project is a memorial commission meant to honor a local athlete and snowboard enthusiast while at the same time celebrate the joy and adventure of winter sports and their importance to the community.BUDGET $50,000–$100,000, inclusive of all costs associated with the project, including but not limited to: research, professional consultations, formal reports from Colorado-licensed structural and electrical engineers (required), a long-term care and maintenance report from a licensed professional conservator (required), materials, fabrication, transportation, travel, insurance, installation, photography and documentation of the artwork.DEADLINE FOR RFQ&P SUBMISSIONFeb 28, 2019ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS This commission is open to professional artists 18 years of age and over, regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability. Artist teams may apply and must designate one artist as the lead contact. All artists must have a minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated professional visual art experience (not student work) and must have examples of previous experience with large- scale outdoor sculpture or sculptural installation projects. Examples of work submitted must be of original, recently completed artwork. The application, including all examples of work and supporting documents are considered the artist’s official “submission”. If any information submitted by the artist or artist's representative, including all supporting documents, is found fraudulent the submission will be disqualified.
