Odes to Common Things: Illustrated Journal and Writing Workshop
It’s good to keep a list of things that make you happy—hummingbird nests, ice cream, French fries, sunsets, snowball fights, identifying tress, or holding hands and to keep the list handy to cheer you up. We will construct a large personal list of common things that put a smile on your face, and begin an illustrated artist journal using collage, paint, colored pencils, paper, pictures from magazines, postcards, photographs, or any other materials to illustrate your list. Then using the poetic form of odes by Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, we will write short poems that sing high praises and celebrate the items on your list. The poems you write will also be part of your illustrated journal that you will take home, continue to make and use as a handy reference of all the things that make you happy.
*Please bring to class: photos, pictures, postcards, and any other interesting materials for your illustrated journal. We will also have materials for you to use at the class for your journal.
