Five years ago, Damien Noll discarded 30 years of art making tools to work exclusively with Solar Pyrography. He now uses the sunlight to draw. His onlytools are the Sun, a Magnifying lens, and something burnable to focus upon. In his latest work on animal skulls and bones, the final markings, like a black line tattoo, are individual to each piece. The markings become a sort of outfit for passage onto the next ghostly realm. The immaterial rays of sunlight giving new context, new meaning, new life, to otherwise forgotten lives. It’s a resurrection of sorts. Damien Noll was born in New Jersey, he graduated from University of Illinois Chicago, and for the last 15 years has lived and worked outside Montpellier, France.
